Projects

IACO in partnership with its member countries and development agencies, prepares coffee development projects and solicit for their financing for implementation contributing to achieving a transformed and sustainable coffee sector.

Past Projects

IACO has implemented different funded projects from different sources including African Development Bank (AfDB), the Comon Fund for Commodities (CFC), International Coffee Organization (ICO), the African Export Import Bank (Afreximbank), and the GIZ.

In the last five years the following projects were implemented.

  1. Promoting domestic coffee consumption in Africa: This project started in May 2019, and was funded by ICO to support initiatives of promoting domestic coffee consumption in IACO member countries. Different countries benefited including Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Rwanda, Togo and Uganda. The project was completed in September 2023.
  2. Rapid appraisal of the financing landscape for the coffee sector in Africa: The project was funded by Afreximbank as a study to assess the financial situation of the African coffee sector in 6 pilot countries (Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Kenya, and Uganda). The project started in October 2022 and was completed in December 2023.
  3. Facilitation of the implementation of the living income commitments: The project was funded by the GIZ, to facilitate the implementation of the ICO living prosperous income program in IACO member countries. It had three components: Creating awareness of the program in member countries, establishing a regional knowledge hub, and promoting domestic coffee consumption. It stated in 2022 and will end in July 2024.
