Milestone achievement : IACO signs MoU with the African Union for coffee sector in Africa.

On 6 November 2024, the Inter-African Coffee Organisation (IACO) and the African Union (AU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement was signed by IACO’s Secretary General, Amb. Solomon Rutega, and the AU Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy & Sustainable Environment, Amb. Josefa Sacko. Coordinated and witnessed by the AU Legal Council, the MoU aims to implement the decision made during the 37th AU Heads of State and Government Assembly, which recognized coffee as a strategic commodity under the AU Agenda 2063 and designated IACO as an AU Specialized Agency for coffee. This milestone marks a significant step forward in advancing Africa’s coffee sector and improving the livelihoods of producers.
